TUMO Bilbao-Bizkaia

The TUMO Center is located at Azkuna Zentroa, Alhóndiga Bilbao, an emblematic building that has been renovated and transformed into a cultural center and has become an urban landmark of the city. It preserves its original architecture and combines historical elements with modern and functional spaces for learning and creativity. The ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the Bilbao City Council have joined forces to create this TUMO Center for Creative Technologies.

partnerships

TUMO Bilbao-Bizkaia is a project driven by a collaboration between the ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the City Council of Bilbao—three institutions that share a common vision: bringing new learning opportunities to the youth of the region.

Fundación ”la Caixa” leads the investment and implementation of the project, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia integrates it into its commitment to talent and innovation, and the City Council of Bilbao connects it with the work developed through Bilbao Gazte STEAM, ensuring a free, accessible, and inclusive model.

The result is a project with a transformative vision, designed to offer young people aged 12 to 18 a new way to learn, create, and develop their potential in Bilbao-Bizkaia.

history of TUMO

TUMO was created by experts in technology, design, and education who shared the goal of improving the way we learn. Since the opening of the first center in Armenia in 2011, more than 60,000 young people have gone through TUMO, and currently more than 30,000 teenagers attend every week. Today, the TUMO network includes 14 centers in 10 countries, including locations in Paris, Berlin, Zurich, Lyon, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and other cities. TUMO Bilbao-Bizkaia joins this strong international network.

Sam and Sylva Simonian

TUMO was founded in 2011 by Sam and Sylva Simonian in recognition of the significant support that Armenian organizations provided for their education over the years. The Simonians decided to give back for the support they received and to foster the development of talent among the current generation of young Armenians by creating the TUMO Center in Yerevan with an innovative educational program.

Marie Lou Papazian

Marie Lou, CEO of TUMO, developed the educational program and led the entire construction project of the first TUMO Center in Yerevan, Armenia. Previously, she led a foundation for educational development, where through online educational activities she connected young Armenians with their peers around the world. Marie Lou holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from Teachers College, Columbia University.
